Patent Associate or Patent Agent

Biospark is seeking a full-time patent agent to join its team! You ideally:

  • Have an advanced degree (preferably Ph.D.) in a biology or chemistry discipline
  • Have 2-3 years of patent counseling and prosecution experience for biotech / pharma clients
  • Are looking for an intellectual challenge without sacrificing a rewarding work-life balance

  • Proactively manage your work and schedule

You have experience in patent drafting and prosecution (foreign and domestic) and relevant training in a “Big Law” environment, but are looking to apply your experience and skills in a supportive, small firm environment with close client relationships. Experience in patent strategy and due diligence a plus (but not required).

Legal Assistant

We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our boutique intellectual property law firm. This role will support both patent paralegal and general administrative functions. The ideal candidate thrives in a virtual environment, enjoys managing detailed legal documentation, and is eager to contribute to process improvement and team cohesion. A strong work ethic and the ability to handle highly technical material are essential.

You ideally have:

  • Excellent organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to process technical information within a legal administrative context;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat;
  • Capacity to work independently and maintain productivity in a remote environment;
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience; and
  • At least one year of prior experience in a patent practice (as a legal assistant, patent paralegal or patent secretary).

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing general support for patent prosecution and legal administrative procedures;
  • Supporting firm initiatives, including implementing and maintaining an internal information management system;
  • Preparing patent prosecution documents, including Information Disclosure Statements, Declarations, Assignments, and other formal filings;
  • Drafting and managing correspondence with clients, inventors, and foreign associates;
  • Retrieving, organizing, and maintaining patent documents and related client records;
  • Assisting with bulk data entry and updates to the law firm’s docketing system;
  • Updating and maintaining firm document templates;
  • Organizing internal filing systems and shared resources; and
  • Contributing to other projects based on your experience and skills.

It is a bonus if you have:

  • Familiarity with U.S. and international patent prosecution processes and timelines; and
  • Experience with patent docketing systems and electronic filing systems.

At Biospark, you would be working in a highly collaborative environment with a focus on quality, innovation, and stewardship. While this role is intended to be full-time, we will consider a stellar candidate with a flexible schedule who is able to commit on average at least 30 hours a week to the position. Travel is rare, but team meetings may occur in person up to twice per year.
